Summertime Evening on Spa Creek, Annapolis
12 x 24″ Plein Air Pastel © Maria Marino
Maria Marino delivers the vivid colours of her day-time landscapes into the night with her pastel nocturnes. See far more of her work (the two working day and night) in our Voices of Knowledge post. We’ve questioned some of our preferred artists to demonstrate us examples of their night time time paintings and to explain to us a small little bit about their procedures in this collection of Nocturne Notes.
Marino shared with us these two illustrations of her exuberant, expressive pastel nocturne paintings. She explained to us that her objective is in “catching the mystery of that particular time of night”

“In the stop, it is about obtaining the viewer to sense
relatively than to recognize, to investigate instead than to study,
and to really like it rather than to go it by.”
In our fascination with how the eye sees and then translates the planet about us to our brains, we have discovered it especially intriguing to study how the eye sees at night. Search for the words “Nocturnes” and “Eyesight” in the lookup bar to examine lots of interesting articles about the science of observing at night time and the art of painting at evening, or, down load our ebook, Nocturnes – A Primer on Night Portray.
