New Photos from Mongolia! – Art Wolfe

Mongolia Photo Journey – July 2022

This vacation had originally been prepared for July 2020, then COVID transpired. I am eternally grateful that people hung on to their reservations for two yrs and we were being in a position to have an awesome trip!

Our aim was cultural, nevertheless we did have a very several wildlife sightings like a critically endangered saiga antelope that galloped previous us in a flash.

We were being in a position to remain with and photograph the legendary Kazakh eagle hunters and even crashed a marriage. Close to Khovd we went to a classic pageant identified as a nadaam, with dusty, spirited horse races, and beefy wrestlers who manufactured brief do the job of soldiers who were being attending. Finally, as element of the team break up off to photograph the endangered takhi (Przewalski’s horse) I was in a position to fulfill with shamans. In the Soviet era, Shamanism (and Buddhism) were repressed, but the historical cultural traditions are generating a resurgence.

The huge steppe and arid mountains of Mongolia are spectacular. It is awe-inspiring to witness a rainstorm sweeping across the land and passing clouds dapple the hillsides. It is genuinely a single of the last areas where by one can sense so compact but invigorated by nature.
